In Jaipur and the neighbouring towns of Sanganer and Bagru, the art of hand block printing has flourished for centuries, with skills and knowledge passed down through generations of artisans.
Traditionally, the process begins with skilled woodcarvers shaping intricate floral motifs, delicate borders, and repeating patterns into blocks of seasoned wood. Each block is dipped in colour and pressed onto fabric by hand, gradually bringing a design to life, one impression at a time.
Over the years, Jaipur's textile industry has evolved, embracing techniques such as hand screen printing alongside traditional block printing. Both continue to play an important role in the region's rich textile heritage.
